Education DIRT originated from Dr. Gidget Ryskamp, a former educator, addressing a discipline issue with her youngest son. Faced with potential consequences ranging from a one-year suspension to expulsion, Gidget recognized the inadequacy of these outcomes for her son. Leveraging her educational expertise, she actively worked on crafting a defense strategy to ensure a more suitable resolution for her child.
After dedicating extensive time to researching her son’s infraction, encompassing educational laws, school district documents, and due process procedures, she pondered the challenges others might face in similar situations. Recognizing that parents and guardians may lack crucial information to advocate for their children’s rights, she felt compelled to share her insights. Committed to preventing others from encountering the difficulties she endured, she aims to offer valuable information to assist individuals in navigating the complexities of the education system.
Dr. Gidget Ryskamp
Dr. Gidget Ryskamp boasts over 20 years of rich experience in the education domain, having earned her Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Montevallo and then furthering her education at Samford University, obtaining a Master of Science, an Educational Specialist, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration.
Her diverse career spans roles as a secondary math teacher, a community college math instructor, and an assistant professor at Valdosta State University. Dr. Ryskamp has excelled as a tutor, math content editor, education consultant, multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) facilitator, and teacher mentor.
